Tom Desisto is an accomplished composer whose credits include two Emmy nominations and an Art Director's Award. His music has been featured in works by such luminaries as the Martha Graham Dance School, Linda Diamond and Company, NASA, Jonathan Demme, Fernando Botero, AT&T, CBS TV, Children's Television Workshop, the Deveraux Foundation, and many others. After studying composition with Mario Davidovsky, theory with Miriam Gideon, orchestration with Jan Meyerowitz, and jazz guitar with Barry Galbraith, Tom went on to make a name for himself in many different areas of the music business. His works range from serious music, jazz, rock, pop, dance, and children’s records to music of all types for film, advertising, and theater. Tom Desisto currently resides in Woodstock, NY and works out of his own studio, Desisto Music.
“Woodstock Diamond Dance Festival” – contributed recorded works to performances by Linda Diamond & Co. in Woodstock,NY, and City Center in NYC as well as various other venues. 2004-2023. In 2017, Nocturnality, an orchestral piece, was used in Memory's Labyrinth, a film documenting Linda Diamond's choreography. In 2018 Linda choregraphed Multivocality, a sweeping 13 minute soundscape. In 2023, Linda premiered a new work, entitled Swamp, which employed Desisto’s most recent composition, Bloodstream. For the last several years, Tom has served as the Chairman of the Board and Composer in Residence for Linda Diamond and Company.
Chemical Composition---played guitar and produced/engineered this serious atonal, arhythmic improvisation ensemble which also includes Mahler award recipient composer/pianist Constance Cooper and percussionist John Cacciatore.
“The Room of My Life” - Taped score for the theater piece based on Anne Sexton’s poetry. Played at the Manhattan Theater Club/City Center and Riverside Church in New York City.
“The Conception of Gaia,” “Escape from the Astral Sea” Compositions featured on John Schaeffer’s “New Sounds” radio program.
“Catalyst” taped score for an installation that included paintings, music, and aromatherapy by artist Kristen Lund
“Golden Harp” dance piece for the Martha Graham School written in collaboration with Geoffrey Armes.
In the Jazz, Folk and Pop genres, Tom has composed, arranged and produced music for and with Ben E. King, Pete Seeger, Richie Havens, David Amram, Roland Mousaa, Jimmy Haslip, Tom Pacheco, and……Barbie.
